On the last Sunday in May, Richard held his annual charity fundraiser, a garden party at his home in rural Kent. Over twenty guests attended and donated a magnificent £650 to the transgender charity Sparkle.

Cindi and Amy took on their now-traditional roles on the BBQ and pizza oven, respectively, serving a wonderful assortment of barbecue and pizzas. Holly kindly baked three cakes, including an excellent cake decorated with the transgender flag. And Nicola organised a quiz: two rounds, the first being guess the animal's bottom and the second being to find objects around the garden.
Richard's Photography garden party to raise money for Sparkle was an excellent event to go to for me, as it was my first time out as Stephanie.
Held in his beautiful house and garden, it had a lovely feel to it with such friendly and supportive people.
Richard and his partner, Jessica, were the perfect hosts and made me feel so welcome and at ease.
Its so rewarding to have people like Richard to offer his time and open his house to the transgender community.
I can recommend this event to anyone who feels a bit nervous and unsure of themselves.

Our Chosen Charity for 2026
Sparkle, The National Transgender Charity, is a 20-year-old, volunteer-led registered UK charity. Our reach extends to people who identify as transgender, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming, as well as their partners, families, friends, and the wider society they are part of. Sparkle is run by a team of dedicated and passionate volunteers, over 85% of whom identify as trans, non-binary, or gender-variant. In 2025, our volunteers logged a whopping 16,020 hours! The Sparkle Weekend - a one-of-a-kind celebration of the magic of gender diversity and the joy of being trans!
